Breaking Grounds: Lower Income, Higher Education

While driving home this evening I was listening to a podcast on NPR touching on certain difficulties low income students and first generation college students face. The segment is part of a larger documentary series entitled Breaking Ground with Kavitha Cardoza.  I  didn’t get a chance to listen to the entire segment, but I was moved by what I did hear. With summer coming to an end and the academic year beginning, I have been thinking about methods in which as a professor I can be sure that I am actively engaging in being part of the solution and not the problem (even if my actions are on a small scale).

The documentary will air on WAMU 88.5 FM during Morning Edition between Sept. 14-18. The full version will air at 1 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 18, at 7 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19 and again at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 20. Can’t wait.
